What fits what

Coverage runs 1983 through 2009. Chevy S10 and GMC S15 are the core of it: 1983-1987, 1988-1989, 1997-2003 and 1997-2005, plus a 1997 AWD version. GMC Astro and Chevy Safari vans are covered 1990-1996, 1997-1998 with the flat yoke, and 1999-2005. Oldsmobile Bravada is covered 1997-1999 and 1997-2001, and there is a 1997 Blazer and Bravada AWD unit. Chevy Trailblazer and GMC Envoy are covered 2002-2009 and 2003-2005.

How to identify yours

Every carrier in this category uses a 7.2-inch ring gear, so the ratio is what separates them. Four ratios are stocked: 3.08, 3.42, 3.73 and 4.11. Your replacement has to match the ratio of the rear axle, so read the tag on the differential or check the RPO code on the glovebox sticker before ordering. Two further splits matter on the S10 and S15. Several listings are called out as being without the ZR2 off-road option, which used a different front axle. Others are split by transmission – the 1997-2003 and 1997-2005 units are listed separately for automatic and manual applications. On 1997-1998 Astro and Safari units, check for the flat yoke. Vendor part numbers on these carriers read like RAA440-1318A, RAA440-1364G and RAA440-1371E, and can be matched directly to the listing.

Core charge and warranty

These are exchange units, so a refundable core charge may apply and your old carrier goes back as the core. A 6-month limited warranty is standard on every unit. On qualifying remanufactured units, a 7-year / 1,000,000-mile extended warranty and a core fee waiver can be requested and are arranged at the time of purchase; neither is added automatically.
