Tire Changers

Tire changers break the bead and lever a tire off and onto a rim without damaging either. This category covers rim-clamp and center-post passenger and light-truck changers, tilt-back and swing-arm designs, high-performance machines with assist arms and bead blasters, motorcycle and ATV changers, and heavy truck tire changers. Hofmann, Atlas, iDEAL, Coats and CEMB are stocked, alongside combination changer-and-balancer packages that outfit a tire bay in one order.

How to choose

Rim size range is the first filter. Check minimum and maximum rim diameter, both externally and internally clamped, plus maximum tire diameter and width. Low-profile, run-flat and large-diameter wheels are where a light-duty machine fails, so if you handle performance tires look for a machine with a helper or assist arm and a press roller, because leverage alone will damage a stiff sidewall or a painted rim. Rim-clamp designs grip the rim edge and are quick; center-post designs clamp through the center bore and are gentler on expensive wheels. A bead blaster, or inflation assist, is close to essential for seating stubborn low-profile and run-flat tires. Consider whether a tilt-back tower or a swing arm suits the space you have around the machine. Most changers need shop air, so check the required pressure and flow against your compressor, and electrical supply is commonly 110-115V or 220V single phase.

Installation, freight and what is included

Tire changers ship crated by freight on a pallet. They are bolt-down machines: anchor to a level slab per the manufacturer’s instructions, connect shop air through a filter and regulator, and have a licensed electrician handle the power connection where the model requires hard wiring. Protective clamp covers, mount-demount heads and assist-arm accessories vary by model and are listed where supplied. New equipment carries a 6-month limited warranty as standard; the extended warranty offered on qualifying remanufactured drivetrain units does not apply to new machines.
