Remanufactured manual transmissions make up most of our gearbox inventory – five-speed and six-speed units originally built by New Venture Gear, Borg-Warner, ZF, Getrag and Tremec, rebuilt and sold as exchange units.

What fits what

Model years run from 1983 to 2022. The deepest coverage is Ford: M5R1 for 1988-2011 Ranger, Explorer, Bronco II and Mazda B2300/B2500; S5-42 and S5-47 ZF five-speeds for 1987-1995 F-series; T5 and TR3650 for Mustang; MT82 and FM145. Jeep and Chrysler are covered by AX5 and AX15 for CJ, Cherokee, Wrangler and Dakota, NSG370, C635 for Dart and Renegade, and the G56 six-speed for 2005-up RAM 2500 and 3500. GM runs NV4500, NV3500, HM290, T5, T56 and AR5. Also stocked: Subaru TY754 and TY758, Toyota C56 and C59, Honda APG6, E5CJ and E5GT, Mazda G35M-R, Scion EB60 and TL70, and VW 02M, 02Q and 0A4.

How to identify yours

Model number alone will not do it, because most of these were built in several variants. Start with the Hollander number (400-xxxxx) shown on the listing, then work through the case details we publish: cast iron versus aluminum case, integral versus detachable or removable bell housing, internal versus external slave cylinder, removable top cover and its casting number, shift lever mounted in the top cover or the tail housing, square four-bolt shift tower, shifter stub length, and input and output spline counts. On Ford units the tag numbers – E87A-NC, F27A-UA, F57A-EA and similar – are cast into the case. Speedo drive gear tooth count and color (6-tooth purple, 7-tooth white, 8-tooth green) separates otherwise identical units.

Core charge and warranty

Manual transmissions here are exchange units: a refundable core charge may apply and your old gearbox returns as the core. Each one comes with a 6-month limited warranty as standard. A 7-year / 1,000,000-mile extended warranty and a core fee waiver are available on request for qualifying remanufactured units and must be set up at the time of purchase – they are not included by default.
