NP271

The NP271 is a transfer case family listed under Transfer Cases. All 11 units here are remanufactured and every one is manual shift.

What fits what

Ford coverage is 1999-2004 F-series, 1999-2005 F250, 2003-2006 F-series, 2007-2010 F-series and 2008-2010 F250/F350. Some Ford notes reference a 5 speed automatic or ZF transmission, and the 1999-2005 F250 unit references a 6 speed manual transmission, so read the notes against what is in your truck. RAM coverage is 2003-2011 RAM 2500/3500, 2003-2012 RAM 2500/3500 and 2007-2012 RAM 3500.

How to identify yours

On the Ford side, input spline count does most of the work: 24 spline on the 1999-2005 F250, Hollander 412-590, tags 1C34-KA and F81A-KC; 31 spline on the 1999-2004 F-series, Hollander 412-417, tags 1C34-HA, 3C34-HD, 4C34-HD and F81A-HB; and 34 spline on the 2003-2006, 2007-2010 and 2008-2010 units. The three 34 spline cases split by rear housing. The 2003-2006 case is Hollander 412-589, UMT432-3. The 2007-2010 case has three mounting holes on the rear extension housing and a bolt on rear yoke, Hollander 412-589, UMT432-4, tags 7C34-BA, 7C34-BB, 7C34-BD and 7C34-BE. The 2008-2010 F250/F350 case has three mounting holes and a slip yoke style rear output, tag 7C34-EC, Hollander 412-634.

On the RAM side the input is either 23 spline with 0.84 inch of exposed length or 29 spline with 1.55 inch. Then check the shift indicator switch: some cases use a 5 position switch with a 1.5 inch hex, others a 2 position switch with a 7/8 inch hex. Then check the rear output. The RAM 2500/3500 cases use a 34 spline slip yoke style rear output shaft, Hollander 412-498, 412-528A, 412-528B, 412-496, 412-527A and 412-527B. The two 2007-2012 RAM 3500 cases use a 34 spline bolt on 6 inch flat rear output yoke, Hollander 412-623 on the 23 spline unit and 412-619 and 412-620 on the 29 spline unit.

Core charge and warranty

These are exchange units, so a refundable core charge may apply. We do not publish a core amount, so call for it. Remanufactured units carry a 6-month limited warranty. A 7-year / 1,000,000-mile extended warranty and a core fee waiver are available on request for qualifying remanufactured units, must be arranged at the time of purchase, and are not automatic.
