This Chevy category under Transmissions holds five remanufactured manual transmissions across three model numbers: one HM290, one NV4500 and three T5 units. Not all of them are badged Chevrolet. Two are carried under the GM brand and several are also listed under GMC, so expect Sierra, S15 and Sonoma applications alongside the Chevrolet ones. All five are remanufactured exchange units and all are also listed under Manual.

What fits what

The HM290 covers GM 1999-2007 Silverado and Sierra 1500, 4×4, 5 speed. The NV4500 covers 2001-2007 Chevy Silverado 2500 and 3500, 4×4. The three T5 units cover GM 1996-2002 Camaro and Firebird 3.8L, GM 1993-1995 Camaro and Firebird 3.4L, and GM 1994-1995 S10, S15 and Sonoma 2.2L, all 5 speed.

How to identify yours

The HM290 notes read NV3500, Getrag HM290, Option Code MG5, with integral bell housing, single rail internal shift mechanism and internal slave cylinder, ID DXH, GBBH or GBKT, Hollander number 400-04283. The NV4500 is a cast iron case with a detachable bell housing, internal slave cylinder, square four bolt shift tower and synchronized reverse gear; its notes give main case cast 33903, top cover cast 33893 and tail housing cast 18306, with Hollander numbers 400-03884 and 400-04281, and note the exhaust hanger bolts to the passenger side of the case behind the PTO cover. All three T5 units are described as 10 bolt top cover, shifter mounted in the tail housing, cast 1352, World Class transmission. Their Hollander numbers separate them: 400-02914 for the 3.8L, 400-02629 for the 3.4L and 400-02735 for the 2.2L, which also lists an electronic speedometer. Two of the T5 listings state that ratios may vary.

Core charge and warranty

Remanufactured drivetrain units carry a 6-month limited warranty. A 7-year / 1,000,000-mile extended warranty and a core fee waiver are available on request for qualifying remanufactured units, must be arranged at the time of purchase, and are not automatic.
