NP208

The NP208 is a New Process transfer case fitted across four makes. This category lists seven remanufactured exchange units under Transfer Cases, all at the same price. They differ by input spline count, by whether the input is synchronized, and by yoke style, so make and year alone will not pick the right one.

What fits what

Chrysler is covered by two units, both with a 23 spline input, right side front output, a bolt on U-joint style rear output yoke, and listed with a Dana 44 front differential. One is for 1980-1982 D-series, built before 2/14/82, unsynchronized, with a bolt on square front output yoke. The other is for 1982-1987 W-series, built after 2/25/82, with a bolt on circular front output yoke.

GM is covered by two units for 1981-1986 K10 and K20, one titled for 1981-86 Chevy and GMC K10 and K20. One has a synchronized front 27 spline input shaft with 350-700 series transmissions, the other a synchronized front 32 spline input shaft with 400 series transmissions. Both use a slip yoke style rear output shaft.

Ford is covered by two units for 1980-1986 F150 and Bronco, both with a 31 spline front input, non-synchronized: one with bolt on front and rear output yokes, one with a bolt on front output yoke and a slip yoke style rear output shaft. The Jeep unit is listed for 1980-1988 Cherokee and Grand Cherokee, 23 spline input, bolt on front and rear output yokes, left side shift indicator switch and left hand mount.

How to identify yours

Count the input splines, then check the rear output: a slip yoke shaft and a bolt on yoke are not interchangeable. Then use the Hollander numbers. Chrysler: 412-181B for the D-series, 412-181A and 412-189 for the W-series. GM: 412-161A for the 27 spline, 412-162A for the 32 spline. Ford: 412-192 on the slip yoke unit, with E-series tag numbers such as E4TA-AA, E4TA-CA and E4TA-DA. Jeep: 412-151B with tag numbers 5359842, 5361528 and 33001385.

These are remanufactured exchange units, so a refundable core charge may apply. Call to confirm the amount. A 6-month limited warranty is standard. A 7-year / 1,000,000-mile extended warranty and a core fee waiver are available on request for qualifying remanufactured units, must be arranged at the time of purchase, and are not automatic.
