This is the Jeep section of our manual transmission stock. Six remanufactured units are listed, all five speeds, and all of them are either AX15 or AX5. They sit under Transmissions and Manual. The two families are not interchangeable, and within the AX15 the pilot tip size and the slave cylinder type separate the listings.

What fits what

The AX15 units cover 1989-1991 Jeep Wrangler, 1992-1993 Jeep Wrangler, 1997-1999 Jeep Wrangler and 1994-2000 Jeep Cherokee. The AX5 units cover 1994-1995 Jeep Wrangler and 1997-2002 Jeep Wrangler. Note that the Wrangler years overlap between the two families, so a year alone will not tell you which transmission you have. The 1992-1993 Wrangler AX15 is listed with stock number 12379T.

How to identify yours

The AX15 has front and rear cases with an aluminum center plate. The AX5 has aluminum front and rear cases with a cast iron center plate. That is the fastest visual check. After that, use the pilot tip and the slave cylinder. The 1989-1991 Wrangler AX15 has a 0.59 inch pilot tip and an internal slave cylinder, Hollander number 400-02330. The 1992-1993 Wrangler AX15 has a 0.75 inch pilot tip and an internal slave cylinder, ID 53009530, Hollander number 400-02456. The 1997-1999 Wrangler AX15 has a 0.75 inch pilot tip and an external slave cylinder, ID 52108118AB, Hollander number 400-02988. The 1994-2000 Cherokee AX15 has a 0.75 inch pilot tip and an external slave cylinder, Hollander number 400-02701. Both AX5 units have an external slave cylinder: the 1994-1995 Wrangler is ID 52108049, Hollander number 400-02696, and the 1997-2002 Wrangler is ID 52104548, Hollander number 400-03355.

Core charge and warranty

These are exchange units and a refundable core charge may apply. We do not publish a core amount, so call for it. A 6-month limited warranty is standard on remanufactured drivetrain units. A 7-year / 1,000,000-mile extended warranty and a core fee waiver are available on request for qualifying remanufactured units, must be arranged at the time of purchase, and are not automatic.
