Used Outboards

These are used outboard motors, sold as used units. They are not remanufactured and not rebuilt. Current stock runs from a 9.8 hp tiller-control short shaft up to a 300 hp Mercury V8 Verado four-stroke, and includes Yamaha, Mercury, Evinrude, Mariner, Tohatsu, Honda, Suzuki, Parsun and Orca. Two-stroke and four-stroke, manual and electric start, tiller and remote control, and short, intermediate, long, XL and XXL shafts are all represented.

How to choose

Shaft length is the specification most often got wrong. Measure your transom height and match it: broadly, a short shaft suits a 15-inch transom, a long shaft a 20-inch transom, and XL and XXL shafts suit 25-inch and 30-inch transoms. Too short and the engine ventilates and runs hot; too long and it drags. Next, match horsepower to the boat’s rated maximum on its capacity plate and do not exceed it. Then decide on control. Tiller control is simpler and cheaper and suits small boats; remote control with a binnacle or side-mount box suits anything with a console, and you need the controls, cables and harness to go with it. Power trim and tilt is worth having on anything above small horsepower. Electric start needs a battery and a charging circuit on the boat. Two-strokes are lighter and simpler; four-strokes are quieter and more economical but heavier, which matters against your transom weight rating.

Condition, shipping and support

Each motor is listed with the specification it actually has. Hours, condition and included rigging vary unit by unit, so ask about the specific motor before ordering. Some listings include rigging: the 300 hp Mercury Verado listed here, for example, states a full new rig kit including power steering. Otherwise controls, cables, gauges, propeller and battery should not be assumed to be included. A 6-month limited warranty applies as standard. Because these are used units rather than remanufactured ones, the 7-year / 1,000,000-mile extended warranty and core-fee waiver do not apply. Outboards ship crated by freight. Call 440-374-1039 with your transom height, capacity plate rating and control type and we will confirm the motor suits the boat before it ships.
