BW4406

The BW4406 is a Borg Warner transfer case family listed under Transfer Cases. All 11 units here are remanufactured and all are Ford applications.

What fits what

Coverage is 1996-1998 F150 and F250, 1997-1998 F150, F250 and Expedition, 1999-2002 F150, F250 and Expedition, 1999-2008 F150 and F250, and 2006-2008 F-series. Four further listings are titled by shift type and year rather than by vehicle: 1996-1998, 1997-1998, 1999-2002 and 1999-2008 E-Shift. Several titles carry a fragment of the application note instead of a clean suffix, so read the full description rather than the title.

How to identify yours

Start with shift type. The manual shift cases are the 1996-1998 F150/F250 unit and the 1999-2008 F150/F250 unit, both without Torque On Demand and both shift on the fly. Everything else here is electric shift.

Then check Torque On Demand and the speedo hole. With Torque On Demand: the 1997-1998 case, with speedo and front and rear speed sensors, Hollander 412-383, other number UMT421; and the 1999-2002 case, without speedo and with front and rear sensors, Hollander 412-411, other number UMT431. Without Torque On Demand: the 1996-1998 electric case with speedo, Hollander 412-353, UMT420-1; the 1999-2008 electric case without speedo, Hollander 412-226, 412-416A, 412-416B, 412-416C and 412-535, UMT420-2; the 1996-1998 manual case, Hollander 412-352A and 412-352B, UMT419-1; and the 1999-2008 manual case with a speed sensor hole, Hollander 412-225, 412-414A, 412-414B and 412-534, UMT419-2. The 2006-2008 F-series case is the outlier: 31 spline input, 32 rear slip, single speed AWD with Torque On Demand, no speedo hole and no sensor holes, Hollander 412-249 and 412-639, UMT420-5.

Match the tag number stamped on your case. Tag numbers here include F65A-DC, F65A-AC, F75A-CB, XL14-AA, XL34-AA, 5L34-AF, XL34-BA and 6L34-AC. Vendor SKUs run in the RTC4406F series; an M on the end means a new shift motor is included, and the listings without the M state that it is not.

These are exchange units, so a refundable core charge may apply. We do not publish a core amount, so call for it. Remanufactured units carry a 6-month limited warranty. A 7-year / 1,000,000-mile extended warranty and a core fee waiver are available on request for qualifying remanufactured units, must be arranged at the time of purchase, and are not automatic.
