S5-47

S5-47 is the model number on this group of remanufactured Ford manual transmissions. Eight units are listed. All eight are 5 speed and all are described as ZF Built with front and rear cases and an integral bell housing.

What fits what

The 1996-1997 units are for F-series 7.5L trucks and the 1999-2001 units for F-series 5.4L and 6.8L trucks. Each group splits again by 2WD or 4×4.

How to identify yours

Three details separate these units. The year alone will not do it.

Gear ratios. Most listings here are 5.72 Low and 0.76 Overdrive, described as 5.72 Low – 0.76 High on the 1996-1997 units. The two PTO listings differ: 5.08 Low and 0.77 High.

The shifter stub. The 1999-2001 listings state Has A Bushing On The End Of The Shifter Stub; the 1999-only listings state No Bushing On The End Of The Shifter Stub. The shifter stub is not included.

PTO. One 1996-1997 7.5L 2WD pair shares ID 1317-050-003 and F6TA-NA and splits only on whether the PTO is in use.

ID numbers recorded on these units include 1317-050-003, 1317-050-006, 1317-050-007, 1317-050-008, 1317-050-013, 1317-050-014, 1317-050-015, 1317-050-016, 1317-050-019 and 1317-050-020. Ford numbers recorded are F6TA-LA, F6TA-MA, F6TA-NA, F7TA-AA, F81A-ED, F81A-EE, F81A-EF, F81A-FD, F81A-FE and F81A-FF. The 1996-1997 units also note an electronic speedometer. Application notes label some units S5-47 and others S5-47M.

These are remanufactured exchange units. A refundable core charge may apply and no core amount is published, so call for the figure. Remanufactured drivetrain units carry a 6-month limited warranty as standard. A 7-year / 1,000,000-mile extended warranty and a core fee waiver are available on request for qualifying units, must be arranged at the time of purchase, and are not automatic.
